Call to artists!

Hi! My name is Lia Woertendyke and I am currently a Pace University Junior studying Fine Arts and Sociology/Anthropology with a minor in Philosophy. Combining these three interests and areas of study, I am interested in creating artwork which explores identity and culture. In particular, I am interested in studying the human instinct to create art.

As part of Pace's Summer Faculty/Student Research Initiative, I am exploring the creative and artistic talents and activities of Pace University staff members. I am pursuing this research to discover the creative endeavors of all people, even those who may not have a career in the arts. In our culture which tends to define people based upon their jobs, I find it important to explore the other facets of one's life and his or her interests and passions beyond the workplace. Furthermore, as a student of Pace, I am excited to discover the dynamic lives and personalities of the people whom I interact with on a daily basis, yet whom I have few personal interactions with.

As part of this research, I will be curating an art show which will include participating staff members' artworks. This may include original 2-dimensional artworks as well as videos and photographs documenting other activities. These activities can range from traditional artworks such as painting, drawing, theater, music, dance, and photography to less traditional forms such as gardening, knitting, fixing things, cooking, and story telling. See the list of possible activities/art forms below to get some more ideas.

If you or any other Pace staff member that you know is involved in a creative or passionate pursuit, please contact me. I would love to talk with you to learn more about your interests and work with you to add your artwork into the Pace Staff Art Show.
